Oh My it's Afternoon Tea Time....
The ritual of afternoon tea dates back to the early 1800s - a meal to fill the gap between breakfast (which was a little late, mid-morning in those days) and Dinner (which was always a late evening event). The result was a sneaky tea and cake session in one’s private rooms…. but these days it’s become a wonderful ceremony of indulgence and decadence, a declaration of idleness or simply an opportunity to meet friends and share a meal mid-afternoon.
So at Terre à Terre we created a traditional tiered Afternoon Tea ... This is afternoon tea with attitude and goes down a treat with a glass of fizz or two. The extravaganza starts with a savoury tier, served solo to avoid confusion or distraction. No delicate little sandwiches here - get your lips around a steamed rice bun stuffed with Szechuan marinated tofu, kimchi Chinese cabbage, lapsang souchong pickled watermelon, miso chilli sauce and spring onion instead! Once the salty desires have been quenched a tiered tea of sweets arrive - a plate of delightful sweet fruity treats, a plate of deep rich chocolate bites and a final plate of traditional scones, plump and warm served with homemade jam and clotted cream. All is served with a pot of coffee or tea (or cocktail if you wish to upgrade). A meal never to be considered on a whim as sometimes a struggle to complete but once achieved a joy that will be repeated again and again!
